It’s not often that we come across a strain that has it all. Usually the use of cannabis is similar to Alice’s experience in Wonderland. We have one kind to wake us up, one for sleep, one for food, one for relaxing, and another one just because it’s tasty. Every once in awhile we come across the quintessential strain that is uplifting, calming, giggly, pain relieving, and delicious all at once.

Lilac Diesel is such a strain.

This seemingly underrated strain has been gradually making appearances on dispensary shelves over the past few years and has slowly made a name for itself among Colorado cannabis consumers. It has even caught the attention of The Westword who wrote an article about how much Coloradans love the sweet, yet stinky strain. This sativa-dominant hybrid is easy to love and if you’ve read some of our other strain specific blogs, you know that we love a good origin story, and this one comes around full circle.

Ethos Genetics , this 70/30 hybrid is the lovechild of four main legendary strains: Forbidden Fruit, Silver Lemon Haze, Cherry Pie and Critical Glue.

These main strains were no accident, in fact it took years to get it right. This lady is the product of careful selection and years back-crossing genetics. Back-crossing is the process of crossing the genetics of a specific strain with one of the parent strains. This process creates offspring that are more genetically similar to the parent. It allows the breeder to zero in on specific traits. According to Ethos, she was originally back-crossed with Lemon OG Haze, then with Silver Lemon Haze, then with Forbidden Fruit. This strain was created to have high yields and be relaxing like an Indica, but have the uplifting and euphoric properties of a sativa. The process of achieving greatness takes some serious time and effort, and in the case of Lilac Diesel, it was well worth it.

The ability to trace the lineage of a strain is easily one of the most fun parts of the legalized cannabis world. The history could go back anywhere from one to two thousand years! Most modern strains can be traced back to one or two ancestor strains, and Lilac Diesel is no exception. NYC Cherry Pie can be traced back to Durban Poison. The other three parent strains are all, through multiple lines child strains of the legendary and ever popular Skunk #1! Though Skunk #1 is not a “landrace” strain like Durban Poison, it is historic in how it has become a fundamental part of modern cannabis.

The infamous Durban Poison strain.

We have David Watson , also known as Sam the Skunk Man to thank for the creation of Skunk #1. He was arrested in the United States for growing cannabis and moved to Holland shortly after his release in the 1980s. The genetic library that he had worked so hard to create and save would change the cannabis landscape for the better. Lilac Diesel Flavor Profile and Overall Experience

The flavor of Lilac Diesel is as balanced as its name. Its sweet and floral yet pungent and earthy flavor with notes of fruit, woods, and gasoline are as delightful as they are strange. The balancing act continues with a high that has it all. This sativa dominant hybrid starts off with a burst of energy. The best part is how “light” the experience is.

Unlike most sativa strains, Lilac Diesel is uplifting without the typical anxiety or paranoia. It’s Given that it is consumed responsibly, the high is gentle, and perfectly bright. The initial energy fades into a hazy and lighthearted feeling where fits of the giggles are likely to come in waves. As the giggles dissipate, a feeling of euphoric relaxation with a hint of couch-lock is expected.

The munchies are present with Lilac Diesel, but minimal. The overall experience of this strain is why we love it so much. It has everything in the best possible way and never all at once.

hiking , hanging out with friends, creating art , taking selfies with your dog, or just watching TV.

Whatever activity you choose, it’s difficult to go wrong with Lilac Diesel. Check your local Buddy Boy Brands Dispensary for product availability.

Lilac Diesel Cannabis Strain Review

This exciting strain bred by Ethos Genetics crosses several strains to make a brand new sativa-leaning hybrid that is perfect for functional daytime medicating. With mood-lifting and energizing effects and a deliciously complex terpene profile, Lilac Diesel is one of my favorite new strains that I’ve tried this year!

My Lilac Diesel comes from L’Eagle Denver, my absolute favorite dispensary for perfectly cured, award-winning, certified organic flower. Learn more about this amazing place in my Sunset Sherbert strain review. If you’re a local and a flower enthusiast you will love the quality of this long time Denver icon.

Characteristics of Lilac Diesel

This beautiful strain is covered in trichomes, a testament to the phenomenal grow at L’Eagle. The buds are bright green, crystal-coated, and feature plenty of deep orange pistols. These Lilac Diesel buds came in a range of sizes from small to large, all with medium density and a lot of aromas.

Crossed from Silver Lemon Haze, Forbidden Fruit, NYC Cherry Pie, and Citral Glue, this strain exhibits a range of flavors and aromas from sweetness and fruit to diesel and earth. This complex flavor profile makes Lilac Diesel a perfect strain for vaping in a dry herb vaporizer so every individual terpene can really get a chance to shine.

Effects of Lilac Diesel

My Lilac Diesel from L’Eagle has a high THC range from 17.75 to 27.83%. Potent and quick to set in, Lilac Diesel is everything I look for in a strain. Effects can be felt within minutes, and immediately lift the mood with a release of tension and stress. Over time effects can be felt in the body, easing inflammation and pain and leaving you with an overall feeling of relaxation without sedation.

I find Lilac Diesel to be a truly motivating strain, with a noticeable uptick in my energy and talkativeness. It’s excellent for both social situations and for getting a lot of tasks crossed off of the to-do list. Lilac Diesel is also great for increasing the appetite, so if you are easily susceptible to the munchies be sure to have a snack plan before you devour all the cereal in the house.

Expect a talkative and energized high. I find this to be a very uplifting strain that is very effective for dealing with my particular brand of low-energy depression. It can quiet my unwanted intrusive thoughts, lift my spirits, and provide some much-needed perspective on life.

Lilac Diesel is an excellent strain for an effective wake and bake, and pairs beautifully with your morning coffee, tea, or something physical like a workout or walk around the block. Starting the day with a great mood and energy boost is truly motivating, and is one of my favorite uses of cannabis.

In my experience, Lilac Diesel is a pleasant sativa hybrid with very little “raciness” or paranoia. However, it is a high THC strain so those who experience anxiety when using cannabis should definitely start with low amounts before indulging in multiple huge bong rips.

Lilac Diesel is an excellent companion for many forms of work (it’s a favorite of mine when I write in the morning). It’s also a fantastic party strain, as its potency and potential for talkativeness make it fantastic for social situations.

One of the best new strains I’ve tried this year! Lilac Diesel is a highly recommended strain for those who use cannabis for managing mood and symptoms of depression. It’s also great for daytime pain management. Energizing and mood-lifting, count on this strain for a motivating wake and bake session that will have you happily dominating your to-do list. A must-try for all sativa lovers!
